Sparkling stars

An interactive object for public space

Public space in Berlin

Our impressions of a city are formed mainly by the quality of public spaces. If they are not pleasant and preserved, or if they transmit a sense of insecurity, we will seldom return.  Although Berlin is a beautiful city but the most public spaces in Berlin don’t play the role very well providing citizens a pleasant place, those public areas are mostly empty, with fewer seats and have no connection with neighborhoods; they are not attractive.

Space

The final frontier. For centries humanbeings are fascinated by space. Humans can not help but staring at stars and be attracted by starlight. In this project I want to creat a space which can grab peoples eyeballs and attract them to come to this place.

Nature

Mother nature in which we always feel peace, strolling in the woods, listening to the river can ease the stress from daily life. In this project I also want to creat a space that people can realx and regain their energy.

Concept

Sparkling star is an object for public spaces exploring the realm of interaction. Subjects can interact with the objects and with one another through light effects. The whole area symbolizes a section of  riverside. During the day it’s a cozy place where people can relax and spend time with their family, freinds or themselves.

In the evening...

In the evening stars start to shine, when people sit on a bench, it creates a visual action, the seat will glow, and lights will move from the seat to other chairs along two sides through the LED strips, like meteor. When other people sit on other benches, it creates a different visual action, the light from two benches will move to the middle of strips at the same time.
